Choquequirao Trek to Machu Picchu (5 Days/4 Nights)

 

Itinerary

choquequirao-trek-4days-1Day 1: Cusco – Cachora - Chiquisca.

We pick you up from your hotel at about 6:00 am, we leave Cusco towards to the village of Cachora, and from where we start hiking also here we will meet our horseman's and mules. Then we hike for about 3 hours until Capuliyoc, where we can see in the distance the archeological site of Choquequirao, in the canyon of Apurimac. While having lunch there enjoying the landscape and possibly to see Condors "A spiritual God of the inkas". Afterwards we continue walking 3 more hours to our campsite at Chiquisca. (1,650m/5,413ft).

Day 2: Chiquisca - Choquequirao.

We will get up early, have breakfast and begin our walk descending to the lowest point on the trail until the Puente Rosalinas, where we cross the Apurímac river to begin ascending to, Santa Rosa here we will have a well deserve break. After all continue climbing up to the small village of Maranpata where we will have lunch with a beautiful view of the mountains and Choquequirao, then we continue toward to our campsite into Choquequirao. If you still have extra energy, you can visit the archeological site in the afternoon to enjoy the mystical sunset, overnight at Choquequirao campsite (3,333m/10,998ft).

This day we have all the time to explore Choquequirao citadel. You will have guided tour of this amazing place itself, including recently rediscovered the Llamas sector. You will be taken to the ceremonial water fountains the best place in Choquequirao to see condors and snow covered peaks around. After lunch you will have extra time to explore this place at your own leisure. Overnight at Choquequirao campsite (3,333m/10,998ft)

Day 4: choquequirao - cocamasana.

After breakfast and since we enjoyed our previous day in Choquequirao, we begin returning by the same way towards Maranpata. We descend until the Apurimac River from where we make our ascent to Chiquisca. There we can take a nice shower to relax from the heat. We have lunch here then we´ll continue our climb until we reach our campsite, Cocamasana 2,500 mt. / 8,250 ft.

Day 5: Cocamasana - Cachora - Cusco.

This day, we continue climbing up for 3 more hours up to Capuliyoc from where we can see for the last time the Inca citadel of Choquequirao. Later we continue our hike towards Cachora where we having our last lunch and say goodbye to our staff that helped us, and take the bus back to Cusco. We drive you back to your hotel.
