Itinerary

DAY 1: LIMA/CITY TOUR

Upon arrival in the Lima Airport. A representative will be waiting for you with a customized sign with your name and take you to your hotel.Morning free to relax.In the afternoon your trip starts with a tour of the city center containing Government Palace, Basílica Cathedral , City Hall Palace. You will also visit the church of San Francisco, with its enviable collection of old books and a network of catacombs open to the public, as well as other churches and monuments. The tour continues through the residential areas of San Isidro, Miraflores and modern Lima. you will stop briefly at the Parque del Amor (very popular with couples on St. Valentine´s day).Overnight at the Hotel in Lima.

DAY 2: LIMA / CUSCO - CITY TOUR

Breakfast in the Hotel. Transport from hotel to airport. Arrival at Cusco, a representative will be waiting for you with a customized sign with your name and take you to your hotel.At 1:30pm pick up from the Hotel; guided sightseeing tour in Cusco such as: the Qoricancha (Temple of the Sun), which displays the best Inca stonework in the city, and the Cathedral in Cusco's Main Square with its magnificent colonial art. Go to the outskirts of the city to see the Inca ruins. Saqsahuaman, the amphitheater of Qenqo, the fortress of Pukapukara and the spring shrine of Tambomachay. Overnight at the Hotel in Cusco

DAY 3: MARAS-MORAY

Breakfast in the hotel. Forty kilometers from Cuzco, is the town of Maras, found in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Tourist sites in the area include the colonial church and local salt mines. Since pre-Inca times, salt has been obtained in Maras by evaporating salty water (provided by a nearby subterranean stream) in the sun, leaving the salt behind. Moray, seeing this Inca green-house. This tour will take you to the magnificent series of terrace circles set into the ground that were once used by the Incas for experimentation with crops. Overnight at the Hotel in Cusco

DAY 4: CUSCO - KM 82 - WAYLLABAMBA (EASY)

You will be picked up from your Cusco hotel early in the morning in private transport. We will stop in Ollantaytambo for last minute purchases, plus an opportunity for breakfast if you wish. We will continue to Pisqacucho (also known as Kilometer 82) where the trail starts. At Kilometre82, it is necessary to show entrance tickets, passports and (if paying a student rate) student card. Crossing the Urubamba River we begin our trek through typical dry forest area. We will walk around 6 km to Llactapata the first archaeological site on our journey. After lunch 4 kilometers of gentle uphill through farmland takes us to Wayllabamba and to our camp site.

DAY 5: WAYLLABAMBA - PACAYMAYO (CHALLENGING)

This part of the trek is considered the most challenging day of the trek. We will wake early just to get a good start. Leaving small villages and farmland we will enter the sub tropical forest and lunch around Llulluchapampa. From here we will start a steep ascent towards the highest pass Dead Woman's Pass 4220m/13779ft. There is an amazing sense of achievement upon reaching the top. We will continue downwards 600m /1980 feet over 3 km (1.8 miles) through very humid forest to the evening campsite of Pacaymayo.

DAY 6: PACAYMAYO - WIÑAYWAYNA (LONG MODERATE)

After another early breakfast we will walk to the beautiful Inka site of Runkurakay getting into the beginnings of the original royal Inca trail to Machu Picchu. From here we will start a steep ascent towards the second highest pass 3950m/13035feet, we will continue on to Sayakmarka one of the most beautiful Inka remains on this trail. After lunch we continue through some very beautiful scenery, cloud forest and the fabulous examples of orchids and humming birds we will walk for another hour to Phuyupatamarca (City in the Clouds) and to reach the third highest point on the trail (3680m). There are also wonderful views of Salkantay Mountain. From here we have 3 hours of downhill into the forest and our last campsite. A short distance from this campsite is located the Inca site of Wiñayhuayna (Forever Young). Even if you are tired after your day's trek, don't miss out on visiting the most impressive site on the trail.

DAY 7: WIÑAYWAYNA - MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO (ENJOYABLE)

We will rise very early on this day in order to arrive at the Sun gate 2730m/8792ft. before sunrise; this early morning hike is the final part of our trek and from the Sun Gate you have your first view of the mysterious and enigmatic Machu Picchu (Navel of the world). After some time there, we will walk down the last part of the trail to the spot where you can take the classic photo of this ancient city. Finally we visit Machu Picchu itself!! A walking tour (approximately 2.5 hours) is given by your guide and after this you can explore the mysterious city by yourselves. If you still have energy you can also climb Huaynapicchu (2720m/8923ft) It takes only 45 minutes to reach the top. (New system requires permit purchased separately) You will meet your guide in Aguas Calientes (it can be reached by bus or on foot) for lunch and to be given your train tickets back to Cusco.

DAY 8: CUSCO/LIMA.

Breakfast at hotel. Transfer to the airport in order to board the regular flight to Lima. Arrival and international flight connection.
