Manu Biosphere Reserve with Flight from Puerto Maldonado (7 Days / 6 Nights)

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco to Bambu Lodge:

5:00 am We are leaving in a private bus stopping in interesting places like Ninamarcas Chullpas, these are pre-Inca cemetery. The trip will be around 11 hours approximately; the highest pass on this road is 4000 msl. On this day, we travel over the Andes and over the famous cloud forest where we observe the display of the male Andean Cock of the Rocks also call Peru's national bird, after lunch we explore slowly looking for woolly monkey, brown capuchin, quetzals, toucans which inhabit the cloud forest. Later, in the afternoon we arrive to Asuncion village. We will spend the night in Bambu lodge with double rooms.

Optional night walk.

Day 2: Bambu Lodge to Hummingbird Lodge in Boca Manu:

After an early breakfast, we continue our trip by bus to Atalaya on the way we will stop to see the place of the Orchids. From Atalaya we take our motorize boat towards Boca Manu, in the way we will see interesting birds like herons, vultures macaws and many flycatchers along the banks of the alto Madre de Dios River. The night is spent at the Hummingbird Lodge. Optional night walk (to see Tarantulas, insects, frogs, snakes etc.)

Day 3: Hummingbird Lodge to Maquisapayoj:

After breakfast, we continue with our boat trip for approximately 2 hours. During the boat ride, we have the best options to see the famous Jaguar, Capybaras, Caimans sleeping on the beach, Herons fishing at the edge of the Madre de Dios River, Macaws, Toucans, Vultures, Eagles and other species of birds which will show up along our trip. We spend the night at the Maquisapayoj lodge with private bathroom and hot shower. Optional night walk.

Day 4: Maquisapayoj Macaw and Tapir Lick:

4:40 am we go to the macaw clay lick, the trip is 40 minutes by boat and 15 minutes walking to the especial observation platform. The activity begins around 5:30 am with the small parrots and later the big macaws. The Parrots eat the clay which has minerals that helps the stomach digestion that is the reason why hundreds of parrots parakeets and macaws come to this particular place. After lunch, we walk through primary rain forest for 1.40 hours to the Tapir lick; here there is an especial observation platform to see Tapir (Tapirus terrestris). The tapirs are usually active at night for this reason we have mosquito nets with mattress and blankets to spend the night.

Day 5: Blanco and Camungo Lake:

Very early we visit Blanco lake, here we look for the family of the Giant river otters that uses very often this lake, also this is an interesting place to observe the prehistoric bird called hoatzin, snail kite, brown throated three toed sloth, red howler monkey, squirrel monkey, white fronted capuchin, brown capuchin

and other species that inhabit this lake. After lunch, we visit Camungo Lake we will climb on the 42 meters tower; this is a very good place to observe the marvelous toucans. We go on the catamaran and have another chance for the Giant River Otters. Return to the lodge and have another option for the tapir in case we did not have luck the night before.

Day 6: Maquisapayoj Trails:

On this day, we explore the trails of the lodge, we look for black spider monkey, monk Saki, emperor and saddle backed Tamarin, also with a very good explanation about the medicinal plants and trees which are used for lumber. Again we can have another last option for the tapir in case we did not have luck.

Day 7: Maquisapayoj to Cusco/Puerto Maldonado to Cusco Orto Lima:

Early in the morning, we start with our return trip to Cusco, first by boat to Colorado village and then by car to Puerto Carlos, after crossing the Inambari River, we take our private bus to Cusco, we will be arriving around 19:00 hours and leave you at your hotel. For the people who wants to fly, from Puerto Carlos we take them by another car two and half hours to Puerto Maldonado airport and take the last flight arriving to Cusco around 15:00 hours or to Lima around 17:00 Hrs. Transfer from the airport to your hotel and dinner by your own.

Manu National Park - Reserved Zone With Flight From Puerto Maldonado (7 Days / 6 Nights)

Manu Jaguar

Manu National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1987. Manu's pristine and highly biodiverse forest offers ideal conditions to see wildlife and can be easily reached from Cusco.

Manu National Park was created in 1973. It is one of the largest and most important conservation units of the world. Being the largest tropical park in America Manu protects an entire virgin watershed, comprising great extensions of tropical lowland rainforest at 300 m as well as cloud and elfin forests on the Andean slopes and reaching up to Puna grasslands at 4100 m above sea level.

The Manu National Park Tours 7 days offer a complete tour of Manu, including the Reserved Zone of the Park. We visit the Salvador & Otorongo oxbow lakes to see giant river otters, but also travel to the big macaw clay lick and the tapir lick in Maquisapayoj.

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco to Bambu Lodge:

Day 2: Bambu Lodge to Hummingbird Lodge in Boca Manu:

After an early breakfast, we continue our trip by bus to Atalaya on the way we will stop to see the place of the Orchids. Day 3: Hummingbird Lodge Boca Manu to Casa Matsiguenka:

We leave very early 5:00 am up the Manu River after 20 minutes we stop at Limonal Guard station and show our permission for the park. Later we continue our boat trip for approximately 6 hours inside the Manu National Park. During the boat ride we have the best options to see the famous Jaguar, Capybaras, Caimans sleeping on the beach, Herons fishing at the edge of the Manu river, Macaws,Toucans, Vultures, Eagles and other species of birds which will show up along our
trip. We spend the night in the rustic casa Matsigue nka shared bathroom and shower. Optional night walk.

Day 4: Casa Matsiguenka:

We leave very early to explore the impressive lake "Salvador" where it is possible to observe the Giant river otters (Pteronura brasiliensis), the biggest black Caimans,
the different species of monkeys which inhabit Manu (13 species), the prehistoric bird call Hoatzin, King Fishers and many more species. After lunch we visit lake Otorongo, here there is an observation tower to appreciate the lake , also it is possible to observe another family of Giant river Otter that uses this lake. We spend the night in the rustic casa Matsiguenka shared bathroom and shower. Optional night walk.

Day 5: Casa Matsiguenka to Maquisapayoj:

We will leave very early so we can have the best chance to try to see the rarest Jaguar, the best time to observe animals on the rain forest are early in the morning and late in the afternoon. The trip on the boat will be around 7 hours down the Manu and Madre de Dios River. After arriving to Maquisapayoj we go to the tapir lick and spend the night there or if we have luck and see the tapir early we can spend the night at the Maquisapayoj lodge private bathroom and hot shower.

Day 6: Maquisapayoj macaw and Tapir Lick:

4:40 am we leave to go to the macaw clay lick, the trip is 40 minutes by boat and 15 minutes walking to the special observation hide. The activity begins around 5:30 am with the small parrots and later the big macaws. Manu Cloud Forest with Rafting  (4 Days / 3 Nights)

The Manu Cultural Zone Tours 4 days take you to the cloud forest of the eastern slopes of the Andes and to the upper lowland forest (around 500 - 600m altitude).Great for bird and monkey observation. Also suitable for families with younger children.This tour takes you to the cloud forest, the foothills of the Andes and the beginning of the Manu lowland.

Breathtaking scenery and lots of wildlife, great area for birdwatching!

 

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco to Bambu Lodge:

Day 2: Bambu to Soga de Oro Lodge:

After an early breakfast we continue our trip by bus to Atalaya, stopping in the way to see the place of the orchids. From Atalaya we will make rafting in balsa rafts which are made from balsa wood, (depends on the river condition) arriving at midday to the rustic Soga de Oro Lodge with private bathroom and hot shower. In case you do not want to make rafting you can go on the passenger boat. After lunch, we go to Machuwasi Lake where we go on balsa raft exploring the lake, here it possible to see the prehistoric bird call Hoatzin and Capybaras. At night is possible to see Caimans. The night is spent at the lodge. Optional night walk (to see insects, frogs, snakes etc.)

Day 3: Soga de Oro Lodge Parrot Clay Lick:

We leave very early to see the parrot lick which is located ten minutes down river from the lodge. The activity begins around 5:30 am with the blue headed and yellow crowned parrots. Also, the blue headed and the chestnut fronted macaws. The Parrots eat the clay which has minerals that helps the stomach digestion that is the reason why hundreds of parrots parakeets and small macaws come to this particular place. After the show we go back to the lodge have breakfast and explore the trails looking for monkeys, toucans and a good explanation about the different uses of the plants, for medicine, furniture, boat building, etc. After lunch we have the option to go fishing, again to Machuwasilake in case we have missed the Capybaras or walk in the trails.

Day 4: Soga de Oro Lodge to Cusco:

On this day, we have the last option for the parrot and macaw clay lick in case we didn't have luck on the last day. After, we continue our trip to Cusco. The trip will be 10 hours aprox. First by boat and later by bus. We leave you in your hotels. Dinner by your own.
